Information Technology Specialist Short-Term Training

Prepare for an entry-level position in the information technology (IT) sector by learning the basics of network and computer security. This certificate course will prepare you to take the CompTIA A+ exam for certification and provide the foundational knowledge for installation, preventative maintenance, networking, security, and troubleshooting.

Learn how to safely diagnose, resolve, and document common hardware and software issues. Course components include IT Fundamentals, IT Customer Service, and CompTIA A+. CompTIA A+ certification validates foundational computer knowledge for a career in IT.

Individuals completing this non-credit certificate may find employment as an entry-level computer technician, computer support specialist, or computer repair and maintenance technician.

Who Should Enroll?

This program is for individuals who have an interest in the information technology field, or who currently or previously worked in computer repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting and would like to improve their computer skills for advancement.

Enrollment Requirements

  • Individuals should have some computer knowledge, enjoy working with computers, and have good written and oral communication skills.

Class Information

Class meets: January 9 – April 18, 2024 on Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00–9:00pm.
No class March 12–14.

Location: Main Campus—Black Hawk Hall

Cost: $2,415

  • Includes two textbooks and two CompTIA A+ vouchers for 220-901 and 220-902 exams upon successful completion of the course.
